Three tentacles emerge arched and poised from an ovaloid torso. The sculpture is economical both in size and its narrative vocabulary. Nevertheless we are struck by a tantalisingly unique form that draws us into its singular beauty.
The delicately pitted texture of the stone with its light and dark brown speckling appears both homogeneous and variegated. Its a rustic, agreeable, calming texture. We see the organic cast as inorganic. Or perhaps a fossilisation - A snapshot of life past now ossified and distilled into an artefact.
The dramatic curve of the tendrils suggests a dynamism and an impending release of energy and propulsion. We are left to speculate as to the origin, nature, and future of 'Ivy'. A work of understated minimalist suggestion.
