The three dimensions lie static before being injected with the fourth. The artist, upright poised like an Olympic diver crouches and penetrates the eponymous cube head-first. Subsumed though visible through the semi opacity of the surface, her athleticism unfurls to initiate a constrained dance viewed as if through a lamp shade or a mosquito net.
The fabric box is fertile for symbolism. Self-referentially it describes the artistic process, a paradoxical struggle within necessary boundaries whilst simultaneously trying to surpass them. At points during the performance limbs slide into windsock-like extensions to the cube. There appears to be tearing but ultimately arms and legs unsheath in an undressing motion and retract into the core.
In parallel, there is an irresistible analogy of rebirth. A second gestation as spirit and body is poured into a forge to be recast. Whilst the nylon affords us the macro view of the gestures, it hides the details of what might be happening within suggesting the ultimate unknowability of others. Perhaps forbidden knowledge. In a world where Pandoras box is kept firmly shut, a few decide to briefly enter and then escape it.
