In nature, mimicry is a step to becoming. It is a homage to fear through the genetic will to survive.
The artist palliates this by taking that which is already mesmerising and multiplying it. An intensification through dissection. The taxidermal edit: prime cut of Papillon.
Our gaze is returned magnified and fortified. But its an empty reflection not an exchange. The problem of other's mindlessness.
Orange veins descend as rivulets to segment the wings as kaleidoscopic plated armour. Each segment subtly angled to present perspectival sharding via refraction to the viewer.
The colour field boundaries blur and wrinkle to create a diffusion like a dyed fabric - a phantasm. The generous shimmering rafts of white adorned with discs of olive and inky blue float upon the oranges and reds and surreptitious purple.
A curtain of glass - stained and seared - drawn slowly back to reveal itself.
