Boy In The Lake

With head kept deftly above the surface, the lone youth is an exemplar of both coiffure and athleticism. Bisecting an emeraldine plane with impressionistic ease, an uncompromising sun stands witness. White foam flecks the canvas as testimony to the abandonment to exertion. Its a liquid vision of the merging of practice with practioner.

But if we perceive at all, can it only ever be of a distortion? The visible digits flay and evaporate whilst still propelling the swimmer forward. Refraction becomes reflection and vice-versa. The surface boundary becomes malleable and its jade opacity acts as a reminder of how much is unsaid and unseen.

The variety of blue green hues mixed with the illumined flesh tones blend purposely to depict a dilation of temporal perception. Its a vigorous yet palette controlled exposition of form flirting with fallibility.

Seen at Soho Revue, London on 7 Nov 2025 as part of a group exhibition ‘A boy falling out of the sky’.
