Simbiosis II

In this reverse Janus composition, the glaze is permitted to drizzle to the base of the lower partition like the salted remnants of tears. The bulbous red limbs are left naked and raw. The solemnity of the gazes references the sculptures of Mohenjo-Daro but with a comic twist.

Assuming form as a double headed homo serpentes, there is a face off with unclear collective intent. Each twin mirrored in the other, projects strong lines from their respective eyes, noses and tongues finding resolution in that of their counterpart. The negative space in the upper half emerges as an upended thorned arch.

One feels a strong existential current in this work. The heads are close enough for familiarity but not quite enough for intimacy. The tongues protrude in greeting or provocation as part of an eternal silent embrace in mutual salutation.

A homage to ancient times when the virtue of seeing oneself was seen as a prerequisite to knowing oneself.
